Tommy and his two friends Marty and Tim signed up for a desert race on their dirt bikes in St. George on February 25th. Tommy has rode a dirt bike a few times before, but this was a 45 mile race in the desert, but he was excited to give it a try and gain some experience. I was even more excited for some warmer weather, which the weather was BEAUTIFUL, it was in the high 60’s. It was so fun that all 3 families were able to go for some fun in the sun. We left early Friday afternoon, thankfully no car problems this time. Our 2 other friends Brewster’s our neighbors and Christensen’s our old neighbors left different times later Friday evening, so we all just met up Saturday morning at the race. Marty did pick up Tommy from our hotel Saturday morning since the men had to be there around 8:30. The boys and I got ready for the day and decided to take advantage of the beautiful morning and find a park to play until we had to be to the race to see the men take off.
Riding scooters at the park
I was not 100% sure where the race was, we did scope the spot out the night before, but we didn’t go to the actual spot where the race would start. So me and the boys headed on the dirt road in my little car (and yes I had to blast Jason Alden’s Dirt Road Anthem “Chilling on the dirt road”) as we did a little 4- wheeling of our own. After what seemed like forever on the dirty, dusty, bumpy road in the middle of no where we finally pulled in to a crazy, crowed “parking lot” that was jammed packed with trucks, motorcycles and yes even a few cars. I was so nervous of where to park, because I was afraid I was going to get us stuck in the dirt, I was able to squeeze my way in between a couple of trucks, of course as far as way as possible from where Tommy parked. Oh well… we made it, the men had to get to their riders meeting so we quickly made it to the truck in enough time for Tommy to get his riding gear on and stuff his face with a few Doritos before taking off. Seth and Michelle had been at the race all morning so we went with them to where we could see the men leave. Alissa and her kids were a little behind us and still trying to find a spot to park. Well after all that rushing the race ended up being delayed for and hour (we are still not sure why) So during the delay the kids had fun playing with the lizard the kids named Mary that I saw and Seth caught.

It was the weirdest lizard ever, it did not try and run. The kids were able to take turns holding it

Seth LOVED the lizard, it just chilled in his pocket for hours, he may or may not have snuck him in his dad’s truck so he could take him home.
After the men took off we went and ate some lunch since we would not see them again for 2 hours or so. Alissa’s parents live in St. George and they came to watch the race and they were so sweet to make us all lunch.
Lunch time
After lunch we decided to go back to Alissa’s parents house for a little brake then Alissa’s mom was going to take us on a hike to see some petroglyphs. The kids had fun running around in the back yard for a little bit, then we hopped back in the car for a hike.

Such a beautiful view
After a fun afternoon we went back to Alissa’s parents house for a yummy dinner of pork burritos followed by a delicious dessert. Tim, Michelle and Seth left shorty after to get back to Hurricane where they were staying with her grandma. Alissa’s parents were so generous and sweet to let us stay with them the second night (they had a full house with other guest the night before, otherwise we would have stayed both nights) We all got in our pj’s and watched a movie. Surprisingly after a long day no one fell asleep during the movie. Boy did we all sleep good that night though. The next morning we all woke up to breakfast on the table from Alissa’s parents. We got ready for the day, helped clean up the house and decided to go to Snow Canyon for a hike before heading back home.
